This part is a good example of setting up global variables, linking values, when to not select 'Merge result', editing equations, and show the use of the newer 'Intersect' command. We then change the height of the cylinder based on desired volume minus the two irregular volumes. In this part we measure the non-trivial volumes with the Mass Properties Tool and input those results as global variables. Only the center volume is easy to represent as an equation. Above the cylindrical volume is the toroidal volume. Below that is the volume around the bottle feet. The center volume is a simple cylinder with a known diameter and height. The internal volume of this revolved shape can be thought of as 3 discrete volumes. This part takes the approach of using the internal volume as the driving variable and the bottle height as the driven variable. You simply create your 3D sketch entities, choose ‘Mirror Entities’ (This was grayed out in previous versions of SOLIDWORKS when in a 3D sketch), and choose entities you want to mirror in the appropriate field. Now, in SOLIDWORKS 2018, you can achieve symmetry right inside of the 3D sketch, as you could already do in 2D sketches. This meant you could not attain your design intent inside of your sketch, you would have to wait until you feature was created and then mirror it. Previously, this could only be achieved at the feature level. In 3D Sketches, SOLIDWORKS 2018 adds the ability to create mirrored entities. However, just because it is minor, does not mean that it does not supply major efficiency improvements! It also offers many small delights as well.
